My 8,000 mph drive to Vegas, etc.

Its all about video today:

1. I assembled a timelapse of my drive to Rollercon 2010 in Las Vegas this year and you should watch it. Every year, my wife’s band the Pin Ups, plays a show at the Double Down in Sin City, known for its signature drink, Ass Juice. The show kicks off right as 1000-15000 roller derby girls from all over the country “marry” each other in the parking lot of the Double Down in the Derby Wedding as a sign of commitment to each other (derby wives are hardcore connections between two derby gals). I’ll post pics from the show later, in the mean time you can see images from 2009 in this post.

2. A video for Jamie & David.

It’s all happening.

Hello everyone. I don’t even know where to start. My absence has certainly not been due to motviation or willingness or even stagnance. I’m in the rabbit hole right now caught up in the unfoldingness of life. Since the last post, Heather and I have shot two weddings, 3 novel covers, a band, a birthday party, an engagement session, I finished another semester AND we bought a house. Its all happening. I took the above shot at the Getty a few days ago and just thought I’d share.

Now, down to business. A regular read for me is the Chase Jarvis Blog, where I draw a ton of inspiration and motivation. This week he profiled Brain Farm, a production co. that REALLY has the goods. Check out their work at TheCreatorsProject. If this doesn’t get your heart pumping a little, nothing on a screen will. These guys wield the Cineflex camera like true artists. Now,  to get my hands on one….

Rollercon 2009

Pre-show

Roller derby conventions are fun. This is our fourth year and I can tell you for sure that in the oppresive August Nevada Sun, there is fun to be had.I’ve been waiting to post this for a while becasue I was hoping to post a timelpase of the Vegas skyline along with these stills, but due to a new computer migration issue, the timelapse will have to wait.

I don’t know my wife’s  Canon 50D yet, but that didn’t stop her from letting me play with it during the Pin-Up’s set this year. Heather is always hidden behind those cymbals and over the years, I’ve only got one or two great shots of her playing. The odds were stacked against me. If that doesn’t make it challenging enough I was using the 25-135mm lens, which was unfortunate.

The economy hid the event kind of hard this year and the promoters moved the derby matches away from the hotel this year, so it had a different feel from the bands perspective. We didn’t get to see near as many actual matches. The hectic nature of getting a band and their equipment together for a performance out of town is daunting, especially when you’re in Sin City with a bunch of musicians. As we drove into the sunset on the 15, I realized that the only way I would ever capture Vegas correctly in a frame would be to visit the city and only shoot photos. Too many distractions.
